Don't mess our city up or you will pay
This campaign is part of the council's new waste strategy designed to transform the way we think about waste. We want to inspire individuals and organisations to take responsibility for changing their behaviour relating to waste and to be proud of their communities and the environment we live in.

Every individual can help us reach our goal of reducing the 7,000 tonnes of litter and fly-tipping collected in the city. Here's how the campaign is progressing:
In 2018 we issued 5,025 fixed penalty notices for dropping litter, and prosecuted 758 people. Currently for 2019 we have issued:

In February we carried out a litter pick in Leazes Park, after it was reported to the council that bins were overflowing and litter was becoming an eyesore. Without you, these results wouldn’t be possible. If you’d like to help make a difference in our city, there’s a number of different events and initiatives you can get involved with.
